The University of Akron Gas Turbine Testing Facility

The University of Akron Gas Turbine Testing Facility will be used for industrial testing of commercial gas turbines. A test pit was designed where the turbines can be tested to failure and all debris resulting from the test must be contained in the pit. The Facility has a gas gun that can fire projectiles at the running turbine in order to study the results of impact from an outside object. The facility also houses the Universities Structures Lab where structural members can be tested and studied and a Laser Lab. Administrative offices and conference rooms are located on the mezzanine level. The construction cost - $1,600,000 and was completed in October 2005
